Kids' Vacation Mini Album - Featuring Flamingo Scraps Warehouse Grab Boxes

I was SO excited when I peered into my Flamingo Scraps Warehouse Sale Box , that I actually squealed with joy. Never had I gotten so many yummy scrappy goodies for such a great price! This is just some of what I received. There is a box for everyone! You have a choice of boxes containing only embellies, or paper, OR a combination of both. How could you possibly go wrong? Products from great companies such as Maya RoadTim HoltzHeidi SwappPrimaPink PaisleeStudio CalicoTeresa Collins and many more, make up these awesome boxes Follow this feathery link to the embellishments box:  http://flamingoscraps.com/product/flamingo-scraps-warehouse-sale-box-embellishment-box/

I didn't know what I should create first until my grandson told me that he needed some of that "stuff " I got in the big box because he wanted to make his own vacation scrapbook. I always said Gabriel was a genius. (He obviously takes after me.) I combined goodies from my grab box with some of the latest items from CHA to help Gabe make his little album. I got a wonderful pack of TH grunge sheets and luckily for Gabe I have a HUGE stash of TH so I allowed him to use the "leather paper" he calls it for his album.

For the cover we used the  Ranger Claudine Hellmuth Sticky Back Canvas,  a new CHA item that can be found in  the store and comes in 12 x 12 sheets. I am totally in love with this product! To hold it all together, I used the Tim Holtz ruler binder. You could also use rings in place of this. The title and year are Maya Road chipboard from "The Box." Letters and numbers are from my stash.

Heidi Swapp journal tag envelope let's us journal "FUN" things about our camping trips while our grunge page is painted camo (G said he needed more macho here) , using Tim Holtz paints. I like the Pink Paislee Destinations paper with the schematics for the pages of building models.

Nothing says summer like being in or on the water, especially here in the state of Florida. The word "Swim" was made using the new Cosmo Cricket Glitter Sheets  from the Crystal Lake collection. You get all the shimmery goodness of glitter without finding it on everything six months later. The Prima scalloped paper worked well for the waves. New to Flamingo Scraps from CHA are really cute cork hearts with sticky backs  from Fancy Pants. These also come in arrows and various shapes.

Well, that's all for now. Of course we'll be adding more to the album with the goodies from "THE BOX". But, as those of you with young children in your lives know, for the most part they have "gnat" span for attention spans so we'll put this aside until next weekend. Below is a list of all the links for the GREAT items used in this project as well as links for each Flamingo Scraps Warehouse Box. BE sure to get your Grab Boxes while you can. They make great gifts for those scrappers in your life, and grab one for yourself while you're at it!

Have a great weekend !

Kathleen

Advent Calendar / Christmas Photo Frame / Shadowbox

Welcome once again to our Christmas in July celebration here at Flamingo Scraps. I LOVE Christmas decor, but sometimes wish I could do more with some pieces. For instance, the Advent Calendar. Once you've gotten through it, all you have is an empty something or other with a 25 empty slots. Not very fun. You want to display some choice Christmas photos, but don't want to hassle with packing up frames. And then you have those adorable little ornaments that you KNOW you won't be able to find in the tree when you take it down, and into the trash they go. Well, with this project, you can have your figgy pudding and eat it to, so to speak.

My paper pack for this was the Christmas In July Kit - Traditional and so far I've gotten two projects out of it and have enough for a third one as well. I started out with two Tim Holtz Shadowboxes 8-1/2 x 10 -1/2 I believe  (since I tossed the wrapper before writing it down) and chose the positions for the tiny boxes using two of the many options they give you on the back of the wrapper. These are a special order item, so PLEASE contact Suzanne so she can hook you up ! The numbers were cut from my Cricut. I covered the boxes with a variety of washi tapes, fabric tapes, paints and bling. The adorable elf was a  Cricut creation as well. The chevron bling on the "25th" is Prima SIIC. Check out the great Maya Road Fabric Tapes ESPECIALLY sinceMaya Road is on sale, 40% off, with coupon code maya40.

Look at the tiny jar of wishbones, also a TH product. We are going to write our letters to Santa, and put one of these in the envelope every year. The Santa sign is a CB sticker from the kit. A small mirror with tiny bling around the edges brightens the red box. A tiny star bouquet using Timeless Miniature Glass Spics Bottles (found in the Embellishment section at FS) is made withMaya Road Trinket Pins in the star design. Remember the medallions / rosettes I made in my first project? Well, here's a small one in the right upper corner.

This is what I did for the shadowbox feature. You can omit this if you want. Especially if you want to ad pegs or brads to the calendar side to pull your boxes out. We did a trial run and my grandson could pull them out without them. Just remember, you won't be able to turn the boxes over for a shadowbox if they have protruding objects because they will fall out of the main box.You could use ribbons glued to the bottom of the individual boxes. Next, I measured the inside of the boxes . I did them in groups by size so that I was making all of the same cuts at one time. I did my sides first, and then the backs. If your paper is a bit taller than the box, I recommend waiting for your adhesive to dry, then lay the box on it's side to trim with an Exacto knife. If it's a bit jagged on the edges, like my first couple were, don't worry. When you use your Tim Holtz paints or Prima Chalks to color the edges it will cover a multitude of sins !

I made sure that the last box "25" was on the inside as well as the outside. I LOVE the resin cherub in this one ! I used the snowman looking Maya Road Trinket Pins Vintage Pearl for, well, snowmen! I dotted faces on the with TH paint and a toothpick since the heads were small. Gertie, my flamingo, is surrounded by tiny Christmas trees that are actually Maya Road Trinket Pins . I cut the pins down to about 1/8" and inserted them into a hole I punched with my paper piercer with a tiny dab of Zip Dry.I wanted them to be a bit darker so I painted them with a bright Tim Holtz green paint.

Since I didn't have any TH hinges, I bought a set of gold hinges, 2" in height, and covered them with Tim Holtz black paint to match the TH clasp, and feet on the bottom, also  special order items. I painted the outside with one of the wonderful  shades of green from the Tim Holtz Paint set. I was going to put on a second coat, but decided I liked the look.

These are the inside boxes that contain the small boxes for your calendar / shadowbox. I covered them with paper and added stickers from my paper pack. Remember, they must be flat if you want to use the acrylic covering that comes with it. If you want it dimensional, then you could omit the acrylic sheet. I put the photos on with a removable tape so that I can change them out every year. The center photo shows a rosette / medallion with white flower Maya Road Trinket Pins that have a red jewel added to the center. The leaves are "fussy" cut from a scrap from my paper pack. You could also use the empty box for a shadowbox for a prized item such as a small vase or cup. Let your imagination be your guide ! FYI ! What ever you put onto the back of the box, REMEMBER, the edges of the larger box will cover the sides by about 1/4 of an inch, so be sure you allow for that or your photos, decor could be partially covered.

I hope you liked this as much as I liked making it. Feel free to share your thoughts in our comment section here on the blog, as well as any questions. Share some of YOUR projects with us, using the great products from Flamingo Scraps on our FB page.  Until the next time I peek out from behind the scenes, don't get your pretty pink feathers in a ruffle so Stay Calm, and Scrap On!

A Beautiful Life A Boy's LO

I fell in love with the Echo Park A Beautiful Life line when I first saw it. I knew I could use it to make LOs of my childhood, but could I use it for a boy themed LO? That was the question, so it became my self imposed challenge. I'm big on using the "B" sides of papers, as well as the side that's the main focus for marketing. This line gave me great options and here is one that I came up with. I must say, I think it turned out pretty well! My theme was "You Make My Heart Sing" and the music sheet paper was ideal for this project, as was the paper with numbers, since it was all about Ethan's birth date. You might see a few items in this project not currently in the store. They might be found in the Big Pink Birds vault, which is now being sold in Flamingo Scraps Warehouse Box sale! Check them out because you can't go wrong and it's and AWESOME value! You have a choice of an embellies box or a paper box. Of course, you COULD get one of each and make it even more fun.

The LO features my seven year old grandson Gabriel, and our newest addition, Ethan (his cousin, my grandson, and son of my son), Steve, and my beautiful DIL Julie.

The trim is a Flamingo Scraps oldie but goldie from my stash. The buckles are from Tim Holtz and can be special ordered by contacting Suzanne ( flamingoscraps@yahoo.com ). I dyed it with coffee overnight and love the results. I used lettering from the Beautiful Life collection as well as the banner over the picture, lettering on it ,and the tag for "first meeting." Since I couldn't put my hands on an extra photo of Gabriel and my son as newborns, I put Ethan's photo in the middle of the Fab Scraps three frame CB piece, and left spaces for the other two photos. I used a combination of TH paints and Prima chalk inks to color it. My favorite piece on this, other than my adorable grandsons, is the Maya Road Tart Tin Heart that I covered in tulle, trims and laces from the Flamingo Scraps vault, and the key is also from Flamingo Scraps

I KNEW I could use the wooden "box" that the Prima wood veneers came in! Being a true scrapper, I didn't dare toss it out, proving my point that, "it ain't trash, it's stash!" I thought the Prima ruler would be ideal for posting the birth weight and length. Again the banners are from the "A Beautiful Life" collection and lettering inside the box were made with my Cricut. I used a bit of bling on the camera as the lens because, well, I could! LOL! Gotta get a little bling in there! The letters for SING are TH grunge that I painted with TH paints, then "smudged" them to make the look a bit more manly, if you will. I had to use Websters Pages Bloomers for the top of the photo matting as well as the coffee dyed  Prima Alencon Lace 2 for a little bit of girlie, for Julie. That's my story and I'm sticking to it, for girlie!
